Obituary for Sandra Young Sanford
Sandra Young Sandford, 69, died July 16, 2017.
Sandra Louise Young-Sanford was born in Detroit, Michigan. She was the second child of 4 children born to William Richard Young Sr. and Qumie Ozell Young from Monroe, Louisiana.
Sandra attended and graduated from John J. Pershing High School in Detroit, Michigan. She also attended Macomb Community College where she received an Associate Degree in Accounting.
She first met the love of her life Alonzo when they were bowling in the same bowling league in the mid 1980’s. They met again in 1991 and started dating. They became inseparable. They married in August of 2001.
Sandra and her husband Alonzo relocated to Cordova, Tennessee in 2006.
Sandra worked for the State of Michigan for 24 years as an Assistance Payment Worker. Being a people person, she bonded with many of her co-workers and sustained friendships that have lasted still today.
Sandra loved playing softball and she was an avid bowler. She won many trophies for her participation in both sports.
Sandra was a cancer survivor since 1994. She volunteered on the Relay for Life for the American Cancer Association often.
Sandra was a very kind and giving person. She enjoyed being around family and participating in family outings. She never missed a family reunion. Being around family was her passion and delight. Her loving spirit and generous heart will be missed by all. You couldn’t help but love the way she loved. “Unconditionally”.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband Alonzo, her sister Gwendolyn Guy (Charles), her two brothers William Richard Young Jr. and Thomas Anthony Young Sr. (Lisa), two stepdaughters Jayda Philson (Rodgerick) and Jawanna Sanford, two grandsons Jaxon and Jett and one granddaughter, Riley. Three nephews; Randall Charles Guy, Thomas Anthony Young, Jr and Christopher Aaron Young, one niece Brittany Alexis Young-Brady (Leonard), special cousins; Sharron Robinson and Mary Johnson, and many relatives and friends. Sandra’s son Kerry Holland preceded her in death.
