Obituary for Alma Ella Mae Walton
Alma Ella Mae Walton, 73, died February 29, 2020.
Alma was born February 27, 1947, in Marshall Texas to the late John D. Walton, Sr. and Dorcas Stephens Walton. She departed this life on Saturday, February 29, 2020 a couple of days after celebrating her 73rd birthday.
Alma graduated from Jack Yates High School, Houston Texas in 1965; she was a member of the Rhine Cadets. Alma worked in the Houston Independent School District food services for 20 plus years. She moved to Memphis in 1987 and began working for Shoney's and Burger King. She later worked as a supervisor of food services for Morrison's Private School Contractors until her health required an early retirement. After retirement, Alma became a loving and devoted guardian of four children - Raymond, Kelvin, Derek and Jessica.
Alma joined the Liberty's Mass Church family in January 2006. She quickly became a student of the Word and worked to support all ministries of the church. In 2009, she was elevated to the role of a Deaconess in which she faithfully assisted the Pastor with his duties. She became a prayer leader, advisor, and encourager while sharing her numerous testimonies and faith journeys.
Alma was known for her good heart and generous nature, never meeting a stranger. She loved spending time watching sports of any kind and tuning in to the Food Network channel. She loved the Washington Redskins, Memphis Grizzlies and Detroit Pistons.
Alma was preceded in death by her mother, father, two sisters Eunice Walton and Francis Wyatt; two nephews, Marvin Wesley and Michael Wesley. She leaves to cherish her memory: a brother, Pastor John D. Walton, Jr. (Georgia); two sisters, Bettye Ivory and Josephine Banks; four children she helped to raise: Raymond Brown, Kelvin Brown, Derek Johnson; and Jessica Johnson; an uncle, Hosea Stephens; her closest friend of 32 years, Carolyn McTyer; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends; she loved them all.
