Ben worked at Giant Food Stores and the Memphis Police Department for two years. He was a member of Saint Paul's AME Church in Columbia, TN, where he was a member of the choir. He moved to Rochester, New York to work at General Motors Corporation and later transferred to Nashville, Tennessee to work at their new Saturn plant, retiring February 1, 2009, after thirty years of service. Upon retiring Ben enjoyed bowling, working crossword puzzles, and watching his favorite team, "The Dallas Cowboys."
