Bennie James Stewart Sr. was born on January 16, 1941, in Sledge, Mississippi, to Roosevelt and Rosie Lee Stewart. One of 13 siblings, Bennie accepted Christ at a young age, and throughout his life, he embodied a spirit of kindness, generosity, and a deep love for helping others.
Bennie built a long and respected career at King Cotton, where his strong work ethic and professionalism earned him admiration from his colleagues. He was also an entrepreneur and a talented carpenter, applying his skills to various business ventures. Bennie enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing the guitar, and listening to music in his leisure time.
Bennie was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Dottie Stewart (mother to Natasha Stewart, TaWanda Payton [Torrance Payton], and Antwione Stewart), and his stepdaughter, LaQuita Taylor. He was also preceded by his siblings Jessie Stewart, Roosevelt Stewart Jr., John Stewart, Bernice Carter, Sertha Spates, Frances Dyson, Fred Stewart, and Rosie Mae Jeter.
Bennie is survived by his two sons, Bennie James Stewart Jr. (father to Quentin E. Stewart, Marquee L. Stewart, Cassie A. Stewart, Kendal J. Stewart, and Alyssa S. Stewart) and Billy Dee Stewart (father to D’Asia Na’Shai Stewart and Billy Dee Stewart Jr.); his daughter, Anita Marshall (mother to Courtney Woods); and his loving siblings: sisters Lydia Williams, Dorothy Evans (LcEvans), Rev. Jeannie Moore (Rev. Elijah Moore), and brother Ivory Stewart (Carolyn Stewart).
Bennie was a cherished great-grandfather to JaVonte Stewart, TeVarius Anderson, Nolan Hopkins, Olivia Stewart, Courteous Woods, and Infinity Stewart. He was also a devoted brother, uncle, and friend whose legacy of love and service will forever endure in the hearts of his family and those whose lives he touched.
