Obituary for Bernice Spann
Bernice Carey Spann, age 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Quince Nursing Home, where she resided for several years. Bernice was born in Little Rock, AR on September 13, 1927.
She was a loving wife of 70 years to Joseph Cain Spann, who passed away on January 12, 2019. She was a wonderful loving mother to five children, Johnny, Susan, David, Sherlyn and Dennis; a grandmother to seven, Justin (Brianna), Katelyn (Evan), Samantha, Ally, Joseph, Monica and Mason; and a great-grandmother to four, Harrison, Lawson, Nolan and Hudson.
Bernice loved her family and always enjoyed being in the kitchen cooking for everyone! Holidays along with birthdays, she enjoyed so much by cooking everyone’s favorite from her famous dressing on Thanksgiving to her fudge on Johnny’s birthday and at Christmas time. She lived her life to please others and always taking care of her family.
She enjoyed working outdoors on her flowers and gardening. Earlier in her years, she enjoyed going to the beach in Destin, FL with her family and always making a stop to Stucky’s for their famous divinity.
She was the most gentle, kind-hearted lady you would ever meet, her smile and warm nature would lighten up any room! We take comfort in knowing she is finally reunited with her husband, just in time to celebrate his 91st birthday in heaven. She is finally at her everlasting resting place with her loved ones.
Bernice is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cain Spann; two sons Johnny Ray Spann and David Leon Spann; her parents, Marin and Grace Carey.
She leaves behind two sisters, Sis and Bobby Sue; a brother, Joe; two daughters, Sherlyn Melton (Ken), Susan Maiorino; son, Dennis Spann and a daughter-in-law, Donna Spann.
We will celebrate her life at 3:00 p.m. on August 20th at a graveside service at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3700 N. Germantown Pkwy, where she will join her husband for her final resting place.
