Obituary for Calvin Rodgers
Calvin Rodgers, age 87, died October 19, 2020.

Calvin Rodgers Sr. was born October 13, 1933 to the late Mose and Flossie Rodgers. He was the sixth of eight children. His four siblings: Harry, Frank, Larry, and Linda preceded him in death. Calvin grew up in Cordova, TN. Later, he moved to Memphis, TN where he met and married Danetta White. To this union, eight children were born. Danetta made her ultimately, yet heavenly transition on March 23, 1963. Calvin later married Christina Ward who had seven children of approximately the same ages as his own. Two children, Bruce Ward and Kelvin Ward, preceded Calvin in death.

Calvin accepted Christ at an early at Hunter Avenue Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. L. R. Butler. He later joined Summerfield Missionary under the leadership of Rev. W. W. Mitchell Church. He enjoyed attending Men’s Sunday School Class, helping with church maintence and repair projects and assisting occasionally on the offering team. Before his health began to fail, Calvin enjoyed the leadership and sermons of rev. Richard Howse, Pastor.
Calvin retired from W. R. Grace, where he worked most of his adult life. He was better known for his carpentry skills, as he remodeled his home (several times) and the homes of many others in the community. He loved sports in general, but particularly cheered for the Memphis Grizzlies and The University of Memphis football and basketball teams.

Calvin leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 55 years, Christine Rodgers; and thirteen children: Calvin Rodgers Jr. (Lillie), Donald Rodgers (Margaret), Barbara Scales, Steven Rodgers (Eugenia), Carl Rodgers (Mary), Karen Ward, Derrick Ward, Richard Rodgers (Belinda), Sandra Green, Janet Mace (Frank), Michael Ward (Carol), Victor Ward and Cathy Bledsoe. He also leaves three siblings Josephine Boykins, Barbara Galloway and Mose Rodgers Jr. Calvin also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
