Obituary for Christine Rodgers
Christine Rodgers, age 87, died April 4, 2021
Christine Rodgers was born August 1, 1933 to the late Viola and Jim Robinson. She was the first of two children. Christine grew up in Cusseta and Columbus, GA and later moved to Memphis, TN. She later met Calvin Rodgers and married. This union lasted over 55 years, Calvin preceded her in death in Oct 2020. To this union they raised fifteen children, two children, Bruce Glover and Kelvin Ward preceded her in death.
Christine accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Summerfield Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.W. Mitchell and then under the leadership of Rev. Richard J. Howse.
Christine retired at Rosewood Nursing Home where she worked as a nursing assistant. She was known for her nurturing spirit and calming demeanor. She loved attending church services, visiting with friends and family and volunteering at Metropolitan Inter Faith Association (MIFA).
Christine leaves to cherish her memory thirteen children, Calvin Rodgers Jr. (Lillie), Donald Rodgers (Margaret), Barbara Scales, Steven Rodgers (Eugenia), Carl Rodgers (Mary), Karen Ward, Derrick Ward, Richard Rodgers (Belinda), Sandra McNutt-Green, Janet Mace (Frank), Michael Ward (Carol), Victor Ward and Cathy Bledsoe. She also leaves one brother Eugene Buckner. Christine also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
