Clementine Jackson, 82, died April 17, 2020.
Clementine Jackson was born on November 19, 1937 in Learned,
Mississippi to Luther Joe* and Hattie Alberta Hicks*.
Clementine has one surviving brother, Benoit (Barbara Ann) -- Marlea*,
Earl Lee* (Maureen), Paul T.* (Barbara), William* (Johnnette*),
Ernestine*, Talmadge* (Linda*), Matilda*, Roberta* (Huey*), Hernando
D.* (Mattie*), Milton Reed* (Everlean*), Lou Ervin* (Evergrace*), Ethel
Mae* (Fred*), and Whitelaw R.* (Ludie Mae*).
Clementine grew up in Utica, Mississippi. She was a member of Zion
Traveler Baptist Church, where both she and her twin sister, Ernestine,
were baptized. Clementine graduated from the Utica Institute in 1955. In
1956, Clementine moved to Detroit and later married Julius A. Jackson*.
They had five children together. She was employed by Chrysler
Corporation for twenty years.
She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Detroit, where she
was actively involved in community outreach. She was a member of the
Knights of St. Peter Claver, an organization dedicated to the welfare and
support of the African-American Catholic community. The Knights
collaborated with NAACP and the National Urban League for the
advancement of civil rights of African-Americans.
Clementine was creative and artistically inclined. She was extremely
skilled in many artforms, from tailoring to drawing. She was also an
accomplished pianist and organist. She subscribed to a healthy
lifestyle--she was a vegetarian and yoga practitioner for many years.
Clementine was an avid traveler -- she regularly visited her favorite
vacation destinations with her family and friends. She particularly
enjoyed visiting the Mexican Riviera.
After her retirement, she relocated to Memphis, Tennessee. She was a
faithful member of The Common community. She was a lively and
vivacious person, with a zest for life and adventure and a youthful spirit.
She enjoyed sharing her love for life and knowledge with her
grandchildren.
Clementine had five children -- Leimamo Patterson (John), Geraldine
Jackson, Melissa Jackson, Latrice Jackson, and Demetrius Alexander
Jackson. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other friends and
relatives.
