Obituary for Coleman Carpenter, Jr.

Coleman Adam Carpenter, Jr. was born July 9, 1949, in Augusta, GA to the late Coleman Adam Sr., and Frances Overton Carpenter. On Wednesday, June, 5, 2024, he said his earthly goodbye to his loved ones as His Heavenly Father called him home.

As a young child, he served as an alter boy in the Catholic church, and later as a young adult, at the urging of the Holy Spirit, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

During his early years, Coleman (also known as Junior to his family), worked with his paternal grandfather in the family-owned grocery business where he learned to work hard.

He attended A.R. Johnson and T.W. Josey High School. Upon graduation from Immaculate Conception High School, in Augusta, GA, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served as an infantryman and earned 3 purple hearts during his tour of duty. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He retired from Southern Fabricators where he worked many years.

Coleman Jr. was a wonderful man and loved his family. He had many names including son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, father, husband, friend, mentor, and most importantly, Child of God.

He welcomed his only child, LaFrance, with his former wife, Agnes.

He married Christine Reed Crump in 1994 and moved to Memphis where they joined Word of Life SDA Church. He served faithfully as a deacon, always willing to help and serve others in need.

Coleman Jr., was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Carpenter; and parents, Coleman Sr. and Frances Carpenter.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his adoring partner, Lois Jones, his loving family - daughter, LaFrance Carpenter; stepdaughters, Wanda Crump, Shonda Hayes, Sandra Dukes and special step son, Artesian Dukes; devoted sister Saundra Carpenter Trower (Charles); devoted brother, William T. Carpenter (Jenette); nieces and nephews, Shauna Trower, Toni Swanson (Rozales), Charlese Trower; Jermaine Davis (Tonya); Reginald Carpenter (Stephanie), and Charles Carpenter (Jessica); 15 great nieces and nephews; cousins, and a host of other relatives.
