Obituary for Emelia Jane Henderson
Emelia Jane Henderson, 74, died February 1, 2020.

Emelia Jane Henderson was born October 31, 1945 to the late M. D. and Laura Henderson, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the eldest of three children. A confessed Christian, she was baptized at an early age and became a member of Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church. A nurse by profession, she spent many years caring for family as well as others in the community. She was an avid reader of poetry and loved traveling, listening to all genres of music and cooking. She was an excellent cook who made many items from scratch including homemade biscuits, and salmon crochets.
She loved to watch old black and white movies while eating popcorn that was cooked the old fashion way, on the stove. She learned to drive late in life and there are numerous stories of her backing out of the driveway and straight into our front yard. This did not deter her, it only made her more determined. Her tenacity is what allowed her to be here through it all, to see our graduations, our successes and failures, only to tell us “you can do it, just keep going.” She got a chance to see her grandchildren get married and to hold her great-grandchildren in her lap. She was the center of our lives and no matter the circumstance, she always made us smile and laugh with her jokes. She expected her children to succeed and she taught us how… “Never Give Up” and “Always Give God the Glory.”
She leaves to cherish her loving memory one sister, Melva Johnson and one brother, John D. Henderson; two daughters, Lori (Tony) Franklin, Carolyn (Dewayne) McCoy and three sons, Percy (Pam) Jones, Sean (Manita) Henderson and Ronnie (Pam) Henderson. There is also a special nephew, Monte (Zanette) Henderson and two special nieces, Randy Johnson, Rosalind Hamilton and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She has twenty-five grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. She befriended many people during her lifetime and never failed to welcome others into heart and home.
