Ernie Pendergrast Patton a lifelong resident and well known artist of Memphis, Tennessee died on January 2, 2023 at the age of 82, peacefully. Ernie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Madelaine Patton; children, Stacy Patton, Kelly Nanney, Cynthia Barger, Jenny Jo Patton and Sandy Michelle Patton. He is predeceased by his son, Christian Charles Patton and his parents, Josephine and Charles W. Patton and also his brother, Charlie Bill Patton. He leaves behind a sister, Josephine Patton Follin (Wick), a brother, Steve Patton (Fran), and a brother, Tom Patton (Cindy). He leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. Ernie was born in Memphis, TN in 1940. He was well known for his artistic talents both locally and internationally. His art is featured in several places around town such as The Rendevous, The Belmont Grill, The Half Shell, Corky's Bar B Q, The Commissary and Marshall Steak House among many other venues. He is best known for painting portraits of Muhammad Ali, Coach Bear Bryant, musicians, local politicians and judges and other people of note. His wildlife paintings in multiple mediums are famous. At 72 years old he restored the mural inside St. Patrick church in downtown, Memphis. Daily was able to climb scaffolding to refurbish this beautiful mural. Many of his paintings are grand scale in size. Ernie attended Christian Brothers High School and later University of Memphis where he played football. He, also, was known for his high school football abilities in the late fifties for Christian Brother’s High School (then known as CBC). He later married and continued his art career. He will be missed by all that knew him. His biggest legacy that he leaves behind are the thousands of pieces of art all across the United States. We are so proud of his talent and we will share it now and with the generations to come, God willing. Funeral Arrangements will be Friday, January 6, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home,1638 Sycamore View Road, Memphis, TN 38134.
