Obituary for Ernestine Negrete

Ernestine Negrete, affectionately known as “Stiney,” of Memphis, TN was born on April 30th, 1945, to the late Rozelle and Martha Ward-Evans in Memphis, TN. Ernestine was confident in her eternal destiny and was ready for the day when she could be “absent from the body” and be present with the Lord she loved and served. She answered God’s call to come to her heavenly home to rest in His presence on Thursday, February 10, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
She graduated from Barret’s Chapel High School in Arlington, TN. Later, she attended Shelby State Community College.
Ernestine accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age and was baptized at Oak Spring MBC in Arlington, TN where she sang beautifully in the choir. She became a member of Greater New Beginning MBC in Compton, CA where she also sang in the choir. She later was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Memphis TN. At her church she had a calling as the President of the Women's Relief Society. She served as a primary teacher who inspired and encouraged members to strive for greatness, live to their fullest potential, and see the best in themselves. Her spirituality thinking was beyond our imagination.

Ernestine was a dedicated hardworking woman. She worked at Cummins as a diesel mechanic, as well as General Electric. She also enjoyed years of working at Brothers Industries, until her retirement. She was a licensed insurance agent. Ernestine was the matriarch of her family and was highly respected. She had a genuine love for her family and loved to fellowship with them. She worked relentlessly to serve her community. She was outspoken and loved politics. She was very humorous and a comedian in her own right.

During her time of leisure, she loved to travel and experience new things, new places, and other cultures. For mental relaxation, she enjoyed gardening and reading. She was an avid animal lover. Ernestine was simply her own ART.... and she had love and appreciation for ALL THINGS ART. She created her own personal art museum in her home. She was classy, beautiful, and full of joy. She lived her life, and ended it, with integrity and faith in God and righteousness. She made faith look easy. She lived a full life and endured until the end, with a smile on her face, a song in her throat, and the love of God in her heart.
There is a vacancy in the lives of all those Ernestine leaves behind to celebrate and cherish her memories, especially her two sons, Ernest (Barbara) Fields, Sr., Everett Fields, and her daughter Evelyn (Thomas) Ivra, all of Memphis, TN. She also leaves two granddaughters, LaShonda Ray and Aishia Taylor; two grandsons, Ernest Fields, Jr. and Keirell Jackson; three great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one brother, Charles Evans of Memphis, TN; four sisters, Ruby Evans of Compton, CA, Carolyn (Ronald) Franklin of Cordova, TN, Patricia (John) Huston of Carson, CA, and Linda (Adrian) Smith of Marina Del Rey, CA; two sisters-in-law, Jerri Evans of Los Angeles, CA and Shirley Evans of Rosemark, TN; two brothers-in-law; She also leaves a dear friend, Willie Fred Peters of Iowa, WI. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other faithful relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
Her Husband, Willie Negrete; three brothers, Ross Harris, Cornell Evans, Donald Evans; and one sister, Geraldine Newman preceded her in death.
