Essie Thompson, age 105, died September 5, 2022.
Essie Ree Thompson (Morris) was born on January 22, 1917 in Batesville, MS to the late Lester Morris and Hattie Bell Rockett Morris. She later wed to the late Grover Thompson in 1934 and became the mother of eleven children. She then moved to Memphis, TN in 1958 where 8 children preceded her in death and three remaining to mourn her passing, Beauford (Verline) Thompson of Memphis, TN, Hattie M. Ford of Memphis, TN and Willie J. Thompson of Nesbit, MS. She spent most of her life as a housekeeper of the well known John Gaston Hospital laundry department where she retired in 1986 and continued to care for herself and others to the age of 100 all in her right mind. She was the last of six siblings who preceded her in death. Last, but not least, she leaves twenty-four grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, twenty-six great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. We will miss her presence.
