Obituary for Freeman Farris Sherman Jr.

Freeman Sherman Jr. was born on November 18, 1984, to Freeman and Annette Sherman in Memphis, Tennessee. He was the second of three children and predestined to be an athlete. One of his very first gifts from his dad were a baseball, football, and basketball. The passion for sports came easy since he watched his older brother dominate a few sports as well. During his teenage years, Freeman accepted Christ in his life and showed deep interest in the Word of God. While he enjoyed gospel music, it didn't take away his love for all music. You could catch him on any given day listening to all genres. He received his education at Lester Elementary and East High School where he was known for his athleticism. His first no hitter was pitched at 11 years old which brought multiple scouts to check out what the future for him in baseball would become. Later on in High School he suffered from a hand injury during basketball season and caused a minor hindrance in his young career.

Freeman's wit and comedic nature made it so easy to enjoy his presence and spirit. He even left behind a great senior year memory by being selected Most Attractive amongst his peers in 2003. With a full scholarship to Kankakee College, he continued sports and eventually transferred to Dyersburg State where he ultimately decided his hand injury got the best of him and continued to play sports recreationally. Freeman continued to show his love for the youth by being Employed with Youth Villages as a counselor, working for the City of Memphis as a Summer Counselor as well as contributions to the Red Bull Marketing Campaign for The Red Birds Baseball team to name a few.

We could always count on him to spend time with his nieces and nephews and create special memories each time he was around. Not to mention all the laughter and joking at family events with his brother and sister. Freeman leaves to mourn in his passing his parents, Annette Shegog and Freeman Sherman Sr, his brother Micheal J Hassell Sr., two sisters, Angelica Perkins & Danielle Sherman. His nieces, Alexus Bowers-Hassell, Mykea Arnold-Hassell, Kimberly Duckett, McKenzye Willett, and Emory Grace Perkins. His nephews, Micheal J Hassell Jr. (Rarkeisha), Brandon Peete Jr., Kashton Chief Perkins, and Kapton Princeton Denzel Perkins. Two special childhood friends Jimmie Beard Sr., and Calvin Robinson. A host of cousins, friends, and extended family that will forever miss his smile and carry in our hearts the great person he was inside and out.

Freeman will never be forgotten; his memory will resonate with us forever. A legacy of laughter and love will remain with us until we meet again.
