Obituary for Geraldine Phillips Driver
Geraldine P. Driver, age 93, died July 10, 2021.

Geraldine Driver, 93, was born April 11, 1928. She quietly departed on June 10, 2021. She was the eldest of eleven children born to the late James Arthur Johnson, Sr. and Jeffie Lee Johnson.
She spent her childhood and teenage years in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1945. After high school she married Edward Henry Phillips, Jr. They later moved to Springfield, Illinois where Mr. Phillips worked at Allis Chalmers factory.
Geraldine spent her time meticulously caring for her home and children. She periodically worked for Sangamo Electric where she assembled chassis for transistor radios.
Geraldine began a study of the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses in the late 1950’s. She symbolized her dedication to Jehovah by water baptism in 1960. She eagerly shared with others the truths she learned from the Bible and aided many, including her children, to make a dedication to Jehovah.
After the death of her first husband, Geraldine married George Driver, Jr in 1969 and moved back to her home of Memphis, Tennessee. She began a career as a beloved sales associate of Catherine’s. She retired from Catherine’s in 1995.
While living in Memphis, Geraldine made many loving friends. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking for her family and friends. She was known by many as a wonderful cook and hostess.
She is preceded in death by her husband George, daughter Sharon, sons Anthony & Gerald.
She leaves to remember her wonderful life, daughter, Joyce Phillips, sons Edward Phillips (Marilyn), Stephen Phillips (Robbie), Paul Phillips (Shirley); 14 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Sisters, Gwendolyn Jones, Carolyn Johnson, Norma Jean Meeks, Charlotte Pounders; Brothers James Johnson, Franklin Johnson, Harold Johnson and host of beloved nieces and nephews and friends near & far who will dearly miss her.
If her life could be summed up in a few sentences, the first and foremost would be that she truly loved her God Jehovah, and she believed and held close to her heart the words of Acts 24:15, “There will be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteousness.’’ The second would be that she believed in treating others with love and kindness.
