Obituary for Gregory Bohanon, Sr.
Mr. Gregory Bohanon departed this life for his heavenly home on Wednesday June 29, 2016 at Regional One Medical Center. He was born March 9, 1970. He was the last child born to James and Ophelia Bohanon of Memphis, Tennessee. Gregory graduated from Westwood High School, class of 1988 and continued his education at State Technical Institute of Memphis and worked for Memphis Light Gas and Water for 22 years. He accepted Christ under the direction of Pastor Dwight Montgomery at Annesdale Cherokee Baptist Church and recently joined joined Oak Springs Baptist Church under the ministry of Pastor Michael Martin on Resurrection Sunday, March 29, 2016. Mr. Bohanon was joined in Holy Matrimony with his devoted wife Sharelle Denise Jones on February 14, 2013.
Mr. Bohanon was preceded in death by his father, James Bohanon. He leaves his wife, Sharelle Jones-Bohanon; mother, Ophelia Bohanon; sisters Louise Coleman (James Dec.), Joyce Barnes (Percy), Delois Teague, (Demitri), Patricia (Willie Dec.) his brothers Otis, Odell, Michael, James (Mary), Clarence; and other relatives & friends.
If you knew Gregory, you would know he was a gentle giant a fun-loving “never met a stranger,” type of a guy, with a competitive spirit who loved his wife deeply. He was a faithful MLG&W league bowler for over 20 years. Gregory also volunteered annually as a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He enjoyed cookouts, playing poker, Trunk Dominoes, University of Tennessee and Memphis Grizzlies.
His Mother-in-Law, Mrs. Rolene Jones said, “I loved Greg like he was my own son…I don’t know why he had to leave us, but it was God’s will. There are some of us born to live a long mediocre life and some of us born to live a short great life. Greg was born to live a short but great life.”
Visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Serenity Funeral Home, 1638 Sycamore View Road. Service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Golden Gate Cathedral, 3420 James Road, Memphis. Burial at New Park Cemetery.
