Obituary for Ira Arnice Stoker, Jr.
Ira Arnice Stoker, Jr., 71, of Hernando, MS passed away on September 5. He was born on December 20th, 1944 to Ira Arnice and Laverne Thompson Stoker, in Martin, TN.
Ira graduated from McKenzie, TN High School and immediately joined the U.S. Navy at age 17. He served from 1963 to 1966 (during the Viet Nam war) aboard the USS Vesuvius AE 15, an ammunition ship. Ira has maintained his love and appreciation for his years in the U.S. Navy, and attended many reunions with his old shipmates.
After the service, he worked for Ace Appliance Co. in Memphis, Coca Cola Co., and retired after 20 years from Wesley Housing Corporation of Memphis. It was there he met and married his wife, Betty.
Ira’s passions were his two grandsons, world travel, bass fishing, music and golf. He and Betty visited all 50 states during their 21 years of marriage! They have been especially blessed by lasting friendships made during their many travels.
Ira was preceded in death by a previous wife, Bobbie Scott Stoker, his parents, step-father Lonnie Reynolds, sister Dona Stoker and brother Wade Stoker. He is survived by his wife, Betty Weiss Stoker, brother Mark (Angela) Reynolds of Heiskell, TN, son Randy (Caryn) Smith and grandsons Quentin and Evan Smith of Athens, GA, and daughter Leanne Smith of Concord, NC. He also leaves four step-sisters, Louise Beal, Faye (Billy) Hicklen, Marie Mallard and Janice (Ken) Danner. He will be missed by a host of cousins and friends who shared his life journey. Memorials in lieu of flowers should go to Wesley Meadows Retirement Community at 1325 McIngvale Road, Hernando, MS 38632.
