Obituaries
Mrs. Irene McGee Vaught Webb “Ms. Goodness” “Big Mama” was born in Mississippi on a beautiful Christmas Eve to Ms. Reola Scott and Mr. Manuel McGee. (both preceded her in death).
Mrs. Irene was a wonderful hard working woman. She was the mother of 5 beautiful children: Addie lee Carter, Manuel Johnson, ,Leon (Mildred)Vaught (all who preceded her in death), Shirley Golden (Charlie), & Mary Vaught; and her godson, Jackson Payno.
She was the best grandmother! She took on the challenge of raising her 4 grandchildren: Denise Carter Payno, Tony Carter, Irene Triplett, and Angelina Triplett Hill after her eldest’s untimely death. (she played a huge part in raising most of her 25 grandchildren and a great bit of her great grandchildren as well.)
She had a special bond with her youngest grandchildren (Kendeick, Shana, Shirley, Jessica, Sheranetta, Jackson, Maunel, Marzavious and Martavious) they helped see after her up until her last days. She was looking forward to seeing her beautiful great granddaughter but that didn't happen and we're greatly saddened by it.
"Granny" as the youngest 1st called her was the strongest most generous person you could ever meet. She was known as the market lady. she sold anything that she could make from the best homemade lemon meringue pie to beautiful handmade hats and dresses. Mrs. Irene took in anyone who were in need no matter their situation she called everyone her baby because to her they truly were (biologically or not).
