Obituaries

Jack Pannell, born June 17, 1946, in Holly Springs, Mississippi, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at age 78, after a long battle with dementia.
Jack graduated from Messick High School in 1965. He earned an Associate’s Degree from Shelby State Community College in Fire Science. He was a United States Army Veteran, where he also served his country in the Vietnam War.
Jack dedicated 32 years of his life to the City of Memphis, Tennessee Fire Department, where he held rank as a Lieutenant, and retired in 2000 as the Battalion Chief of Memphis Fire House #16. His picture with article at an active Memphis fire scene was featured in “Life” magazine, photographed by a Memphis news photographer. Jack was highly respected by his family, community and church family at Ellendale Baptist where he also sang in the church choir.
He owned his own moving company for many years, and worked as a medical courier in later years, until he retired full-time in 2016.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Pannell, who went to be with Jesus earlier this year, and his daughter, Amy Green.
Jack is also preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Clara Pannell, and his two brothers, Donnie Pannell and Ronnie Pannell.
Jack is survived in death by his daughter, Michelle O’Coners, of Hernando, Mississippi, his son Jason Pannell, of Arlington, Tennessee, and his sister, Jill Carson (Mike) of Nesbit, Mississippi.
He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Lauren Holley (Buddy), Kaitlyn Wells (Corey), Joshua O’Coners (Tiffany), Megan Woolfolk (Dylan), Morgan Pannell (Kristin), and Madison Pannell (Carter), along with 5 great-grandchildren, William Holley, Andrew Wells, Charlie Wells, Alaina Kate Wells and Maddox Pannell.
Jack leaves many nieces and nephews, Julie Schram (Marc), Michael Carson (Misty), John Carson (Amanda), Jennifer Dennis, Christie Hester (Joey), Pam Autery, Frank Gray and Heather Gray.
Jack was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. He could talk to us for hours about the Bible. He had read the bible cover to cover many times, as well as study way beyond that. He was a bible-believing man who loved the Lord. He always, without fail, made sure his family was provided for and taken care of to include making sure loved ones and friends knew Christ. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and family vacations, especially the beach. He was loved dearly by his family, many friends and his church family. He will be greatly missed by everyone until our reunion again one day in Heaven. It is now time for him to be laid to rest in peace.
