James A. Woods, age 86, died October 8, 2022 in Oxford, MS.

James Andrew Woods was born July 8, 1936, to Mary Catherine Woods and James Andrew McKinney in Memphis, Tennessee. James was baptized and confessed Christ in his life at Avery Chapel A.M.E Church. James learned the value of a dollar early in life delivering groceries in his community of downtown Memphis. He was a product of Memphis City Schools where he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1954. While in high school, he worked as a busboy then a waiter at The Peabody Hotel. After graduation, he enrolled in Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial University where he majored in Business Administration. While attending Tennessee Agricultural & Industrial University, James was inducted into the Alpha Theta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated in the Fall of 1957. Brother Woods graduated from Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial University in 1958.

He was inducted in the United States Army in 1960, after graduation where he was stationed in South Korea. He remained as a member of the Army Reserve until his honorable discharge in 1966. James returned to Memphis where he worked at International Harvester before becoming a Sales Representative for the Conwood Company, LP, for twenty-seven years.

An active Life Member of the Memphis Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. He was also a Life Member of the Tennessee State University National Alumni Association. Big Money was an active member in his community and belonged to The Booker T. Washington Class of 1954, The Big Blue Club, & The Prestigious Corner Club. Brother Woods remained a faithful servant to Avery Chapel A.M.E. Church until it closed its doors on September 29, 2019.

James leaves one son, Andrew (Tjuan); one daughter, Ashley and their dear mother Shirley A. Woods, Marilyn Perkins, Mary Jeffrey and Betty Jean Cooper; and a host of relatives and friends who he touched throughout the years.
