James Henry Wallace, Sr. made his arrival in the world on January 9. 1931 to the late Truly B. Wallace Irvin and Anderson Pettis. At a young age he confessed his belief in Christ, at Thyatira Church of Christ in Thyatira, Mississippi.
James Henry grew up in Historic Orange Mound, TN. A community in which he deeply loved. He was a proud graduate of The Melrose High School home of the Mighty Golden Wildcats where he was a member of the revered football and track teams.
Wallace had the privilege of being married twice. His first marriage was to the late Geraldine Woods Caples. This marriage produced two children Deborah A. Wallace, who preceded her father in death, and James H. Wallace, Jr. affectionately known as Jimmy (Mabel). He also had another son Winfred L. Scott, who also preceded him in death. Years after the decline of his first marriage he met and married the late Sylvia Jean Johnson Wallace to this union a daughter was born Darcas J. Wallace

James Henry was blessed to have 7 grandchildren Phalishia Wallace Williams (Fredrick), Mario Wallace, Makeba Wallace, Kamelia Wallace (Christopher) the late Debbie Wallace (Darryl), James H. Wallace, III, and Damarcas J. Wallace, who he helped raise. James Henry also leaves a brother LeRoy Wallace of Robbins, IL and a very close cousin O'Bera Muse Jones of Detroit, MI. 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great, great - grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Wallace worked over 44 years as a Civil Service Painter for the Federal Government. During this time he became the first black to become Supervisor of a Public Works department at the Naval Air Station at Millington (NAS). In 1983, NAS was closed and contracted out. Wallace retired from his federal government position. But, continued working with the various contractors in his same capacity through June 1995. He spent 30 years at NAS Millington working on a career that he loved. He would say, " Everything about it wasn't a bed of roses. But, it was a bed he enjoyed being in". James Henry put down his paint brush for a final time on June 8, 2020.
