Obituary for Janice Lynn Sewell Townsel

Janice Lynn Sewell Townsel was born June 2, 1959, in Memphis Tennessee to Lex Sewell and Mary Sewell.

The highlight of her childhood was being the captain of the cheer squad at Raleigh Egypt high. She retired from Shelby County Government after working there for 25 years.

Janice was known for her sweet spirit, and loving demeanor. To know her was to love her. Her entire life was about her family and making sure they were cared for. Not only her kids but her children’s friends and family were treated the same.

She has been with her husband Joseph Townsel for 43 years. They share two beautiful children together Sylvia Major Townsel Lee (Joseph Lee) and Joseph Townsel Jr. They also share three grandchildren Joseph Major Lee V, Joss Milan Lee, and Gyft Arman Moon Townsel.

Janice loved to travel and took her family lots of places which included New York, Chicago, and Jamaica to name a few. However, Jamaica was her all-time favorite. She and her family visited too many times to count. She dreamed of taking her grandchildren but did not get the chance. Janice also enjoyed finding antiques and spending time with her sisters, cousin (Tina Baggett) and aunt (Connie Sink).

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Lex Sewell, and Mary Sewell. She leaves her stepmother (Pear Sewell), husband Joseph Townsel; daughter, Sylvia Major Townsel Lee (Joseph); a son Joseph Townsel Jr.; sisters, Lisa Sewell, and Donna Sewell. Three grandchildren; Joseph Major Lee V, Joss Milan Lee. And Gyft Arman Moon Townsel, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunt, and other extended family and friends.
