Obituary for Jesse Davis
Jesse Davis, 81, died February 23, 2019.
Jesse Davis was born on April 15, 1937 to late Ora Mae Vanarsdale and Edward Davis in Canton, Mississippi. After graduating from Manassas High School in 1958. He tried to enlist in the Army and was declined due to medical terms.
He had a love for music and started playing musical instruments. He was a musician playing the saxophone, bass guitar and harmonica. He was a gifted man who sang and became a professional commercial artist.
He was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He loved the Lord and his people.
In 1969, Jesse married. He moved to Chicago Illinois, and opened up a night club.
He had three beautiful children, Victor J. Davis, Timothy J. Davis, Jessica Davis and Chauncey Davis Russell.
He worked with Sunland Hospital in Chicago as an orderly with disabled children and enjoyed assisting the sick. He later worked with Holy Cross Hospital, as a surgical Technician.
Jesse moved back to Memphis, TN in 1970, lived for a short period and then relocated to New Jersey starting an awesome job with Ford Motor Vehicle Manufactures. In 1986, he worked for Shelby County Correction Facility in Memphis, TN, where he retired. He established a successful Gospel Band called the Memphis Messengers.
In December 1976, he married Bertha Lydia Figueroa. Jesse leaves to cherish his memory, his wife for 41 years; three sisters, Ann P. Threlkeld, Minnie Yancey, Maxine Johnson; one son-in-law, Christopher J. Russell Sr.; Daughter in Law, Dorothy Davis; his grandchildren, Janiece L. Russell, Christopher J. Russell Jr., Lamar D. Russell, Jada Whitelow, and Skye E. Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jesse was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ora Byrd and Edward Davis; his brothers, Cleveland Davis, Dewitt Davis, and George Byrd Jr.
