John Allen Garrett's life began on April 20, 1942, in Memphis, TN. He was the son of the late John Allen Garrett and Venezuela Garrett. He transitioned this life on June 23, 2020, at Methodist University Hospital.

John's formative years were spent in Memphis, TN. He was a proud member of the 1961 graduating class of Booker T. Washington High School.
John was an outgoing, fun-loving person with a big personality and a remarkable sense of humor. Those who knew and loved John will always remember his infectious smile, generosity, and strong will.
Family members left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife of 56 years Vivian H. Garrett, his daughter, Talya M. Garrett, his son, Tommy D. Ambrose (Tammy), all of Memphis, TN; his sister, Mary Buckner of Nashville, TN and his brother, Finnus Garrett (Toni) of Washington, D.C. Joining the aforementioned are seven grandchildren, Kendrick Triggs, Tommy Ambrose, Jr, Christyn Ambrose, Ariel Garrett, Derrick Christovale, Jr, Christian Brown, and Malcolm Ambrose, twelve great-grandchildren, and a myriad of nieces, nephews, aunt, cousins, other relatives, and friends in whose hearts he will live forever.
