Obituary for John Scott Walker
John Scott Walker passed away Monday morning, January 30 in Memphis. Since a diving accident left him paralyzed at age 15, Professor Walker achieved degrees in English and Creative Writing from Liberty University, University of Mississippi, culminating in an MFA from the University of Memphis. He lectured for many years at Crichton College, earning the position of Assistant Professor of English, and then on the faculty of the Center for Western Studies. He won awards (Glimmer Train and Raymond Carver) for his fiction, and was dearly beloved by colleagues and students.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Walker; brothers, Matt Walker, Rick Walker & Jeff Walker; sister, Julie Walker Richter; and loving friends & caregivers, Bob & Gloria Webb, and John Hodges.
Funeral Services will be held at Serenity Funeral Home, 1638 Sycamore View Road at 5 p.m., Wednesday, February 1st, with a visitation starting at 4 p.m.
