Obituary for Julia A. Thompson
Julia Simpson Thompson was born on June 12, 1952 in Scott, Mississippi to the late Rev. Eddie Simpson and Herbert Mazique Simpson. She was preceded in death by her sister, Felestine Robinson, and her brother Maceo Mazique.
She attended high school in Greenville, MS, later moving to Memphis, TN where she attended Lemoyne Owen College, and became a member of The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Julia accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and regularly typed her dad’s sermons. She lived her life by The Golden Rule, and she would often quote with sincerity: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!" (Lev. 19:18)
Julia was by far the most generous person and she took great joy in seeing others happy and being a part of making others smile. She often made it her business to go over and above the call of duty to help others in their time of need.
She would befriend the elderly and send gift, money, cards and make frequent calls to check in on those whom The Lord had placed on her heart.
Julia worked at Proctor & Gamble Corporate in Cincinnati, Ohio, retiring with 32 years of service in 2008. Upon retirement, she and her husband relocated to the Olive Branch/Memphis area where she became a loving member of The Life Church-Houston Levee Campus. She was part The Salt-And-Light Leadership Team and participated in Red Bags, a program to provide food for kids over the weekend.
Julia loved to travel and connect with fellow travelers, making many lifelong friends along the way. She was an avid bowler and loved it with a passion. She also loved flower gardening year round.
Julia leaves behind to cherish her loving memory her husband of twenty-six years, Vernon Thompson, one daughter, Monica Watts (Eugene) of Belleville, MI, two step daughters, Isabel Wright (Jonathan) of Earlysville, VA, and Yvette Thompson of Mckinney, TX, a step-son, Vernon Thompson, Jr. of Frisco, TX, two Goddaughters, Erica and Gianna McNeal of Fairfield, OH, three brothers, William Fowler (Earlene) and Eddie Simpson (Stella) of Gary IN, Joe Simpson of Memphis, TN and two sisters, Erma Simpson and Rosie Simpson of Memphis, TN, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, classmates, Sorority Sisters and friends.
