Obituaries
Keith Samuel Malone was born August 18, 1981 to the late Rhoda Beasley Malone and Fred Douglass Malone. Born and raised in Champaign, Illinois by his beloved mother, Keith also spent many summers and holidays at his grandparents’ home in Jackson, Tennessee.
Spiritually minded even as a small child, Keith accepted Christ and was baptized around age seven at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. Keith’s devoted mother kept him involved in nurturing church and community activities where he excelled in soccer and Little League baseball. Keith later played high school basketball and football before graduating from Champaign Centennial in 1999.
Keith attended Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, later transferring to Eastern Illinois University where he graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management.
Always resourceful, Keith’s professional career was multi-faceted, including sports, sales and marketing, and educating and inspiring young people. Keith held positions with the Memphis Redbirds baseball team, Enterprise Car Sales and Rentals, the Houston Comets (WNBA), the Houston Dynamo (professional soccer league), Best Buy, Memphis City Schools and Vatterott Career College. Most recently, Keith enjoyed guiding and shaping young people through his work with Shelby County Schools as a Family Engagement Specialist and serving as an admissions representative at Concorde Career College.
In Spring 2008, Keith became an enthusiastic and active member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Memphis Alumnae Chapter, joining the fraternity of his father. He was also a faithful and committed member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Memphis where he regularly attended Bible study and Sunday services.
Keith’s greatest joy and source of pride was his faith and his family. He was always happiest at large family gatherings and proved to be a particularly proud, dedicated, and affectionate uncle to his beloved niece and nephew, Dominique and KJ.
Keith was blessed with a loving disposition and brought an infectious and joyful nature to everything he did. He was particularly sensitive to people with special needs and extended non-judgmental warmth, kindness, respect and compassion to everyone. Keith will be forever loved and missed but leaves behind such a legacy of love and joy. His memory will be forever cherished by his devoted brother and sister, F. Kevin Malone (Renee) and Angela Malone Williams (Eric); loving aunt, Barbara Beasley Ross (Tommy); niece, Dominique Malone; nephew, Kevin “KJ” Malone; Godparents, Willie and Vernita Taylor and a host of other precious and loving family and friends.
