Larry Eugene Pittman was born on July 29, 1949, from the union of Aster Pittman, Sr. and Katie Lee Pittman in Chicago, Illinois. Larry expressed his love for God early on in life and was baptized at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. In his teens, he reconnected with his southern roots and graduated from Melrose High School in Memphis, Tennessee.

Larry was one of the most talented, creative, charming, and charismatic people around. As a young man, he served in the United States Army. Upon his return home, he attended the Chicago School of Barbering. Barbering was not the only outlet for his artistry. His handmade cards and signs were highly sought after. From customized greeting cards and fades to perfectly manicured lawns, Larry found delight in sharing his talent to create and cultivate beauty.

Larry Eugene Pittman departed his earthly body on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the VA Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee after battling a breakthrough case of COVID-19 and heart disease.

He lived a very complex 72 years, complete with several very different versions of himself, but one thing that remained constant was his love for his family. In the last two years, Larry faced health issues, but throughout it all, he expressed these were some of the best years of his life because he was at peace with who he was, where he was going and the relationships he had rebuilt with his loved ones.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Aster Pittman, Sr. and Katie Lee Pittman; siblings, Ethel Mae Pittman and Jerome Pittman.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters, whom he adored more than anything in the world, Demetria (Tree) Krawczyk of Dickinson, Texas, Keyanna Jones (Michael) of Los Angeles, California, and Ariel Sawyer-Brooks (Kyle); grandchildren, Debra Mallard, Darrion Mallard, Christopher Stewart and Zahra Jones; sister, Deborah Pittman Smith; brothers, Aster Pittman, Jr., Terry Pittman, Louis Pittman, Calvin Pittman, Sr. Bernard Pittman, Gregory Quinn Pegues, and Darren White; uncle, Steve Taylor of Overland Park, Kansas; aunts, Lucrease Garner and Elsie Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
