Obituary for Lewis Reid McCoy

Lewis Reid McCoy, 76, died December 24, 2022.

Lewis Reid McCoy Jr was the son of Lewis Reid McCoy Sr and Jewel Elizabeth McCoy. He was born on December 6, 1946, in Booneville Mississippi.

He is survived by his life-long friend, love of his life and wife Elizabeth Dawn McCoy; his son Reid McCoy; his stepchildren Sabrina Reed, Shawn Buckingham and John Gloria; his under the wing children Shawn’s half brother Jeremiah Burns and son’s best friend Shea Sowell; his adoring aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and old friends that he thought of as family; his five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Reid was often found gardening, grilling his world-famous ribs and fishing. Along with being a graciously courteous host, everywhere he went, he was the life of the party.

Reid was an incredibly talented musician and songwriter. He wrote The Elvis Overture for Graceland and was a member of The Memphis Symphony Orchestra for many years. He composed, arranged, and produced numerous television and radio commercials through Reid McCoy Productions. He has performed recording and concerts with famous artists Ringo Star, Charlie Rich, Tony Bennett and Isaac Hayes. He also contributed to the obscure but much-loved bands Dog Police and The Jumpin’ Chi-Chi’s.

Lewis Reid McCoy Jr will forever and always be in our Hearts!
