Obituaries

Martha Janice Conlee, 83, of Oakland, TN, died at home on November 2, 2024, joining her beloved son, Bubba, and husband, Larry, in heaven.
Services will be held on Sunday, November 17, with visitation starting at 1:30pm and a memorial service at 2pm at One City Church at 120 N. East Yates Rd. Memphis, TN. Pastor Chris Conlee will be officiating. Janice will be buried in a private service at Salem Presbyterian Church alongside her mother, Martha Mize, and sister-in-law, Jere Mize. Serenity Funeral Homes will be handling the arrangements and burial.
Janice was born in Covington, TN, to Martha and Herbert Mize on July 16,
1941. She attended Munford High School and graduated in 1959. Janice also got her Certificate in Beauty Culture in 1958, a year before graduating.
Shortly after high school, she met James Larry Conlee and married on December 20, 1959. They both got jobs at Hart's bakery, where she worked in the office, and he worked in the bakery. This opportunity led them to start their distribution franchise in Memphis, delivering Pepperidge Farms products and eventually Entenmann's and Oroweat bread to grocery stores in the Mid-South and surrounding areas.
Ahead of her time as a female basketball athlete, Janice also held the honor of being inducted into the Tennessee Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.
Most importantly, Janice was a prayer warrior. She was a warrior first who later learned how to fight in prayer. Every victory in the Conlee family is because Janice Conlee fought the battles in prayer. She had many battle scars, but she never quit fighting. If anyone ever deserves a Purple Heart from God, it is Martha Janice Conlee.
She is survived by her brothers Johnny and Eddie Mize, daughter Lynn Conlee, son Chris Conlee (Karin), and grandchildren Tricia Henderson, Ashley Loveland, Mark Conlee, and Annika Conlee. Great-grandchildren Jordan Henderson, Jaylin Hardin, Peyton Ballard, Kiersten Ballard,
Sebastian Loveland, and great-great-grandchildren Lilith McAlpin and Lucious Crutcher.
Regarding any flowers, memorial donations can be made to One City Church. The family would like to thank One City Church, Serenity Funeral Home, and her nurse practitioner Floytl Gresham.
