Obituaries
Thank you Lord for creating Mary. She was truly one of a kind.
She had her own way of thinking and doing things, but she always accomplished her goals.
Hardworking, “Miss Diggs” earned the respect and admiration of her supervisors and co-workers at the University of Tennessee. During decades of service, she hardly ever missed work, even when she didn’t feel well or the weather was treacherous. We didn’t always agree with this, but she would go anyway.
Although a quiet and reserved woman, Mary was friendly, but when she had to, she would make her presence known, not biting her tongue and clearly expressing what was on her mind.
She enjoyed her life roles of daughter (having had a happy childhood), sister, wife, step-mom, and aunt. Her nieces and nephews personally attest to her as a wonderful aunt.
Mary enjoyed eating and had an adventurous food spirit, especially enjoying Italian and Chinese cuisine. She also loved family dinners which included homemade cake. She was a talented cook in her own right as well.
Mary was a family treasure, attending every holiday, birthday, and other family gatherings. We could always count on her to be there. Mary issued many envelopes to nieces, nephews, step-children, step-grandchildren, and others. There is not a life in our family that she has not touched in a tangible way or that has not benefited from her generous spirit.
Most importantly, Mary loved God, His Servants, and His church. She enjoyed Temple of Deliverance in its first week and was always faithful in attendance and supportive of its programs. Even during her illness, she regularly viewed the church services on TV and continued to enjoy the preaching and teaching of Bishop Patterson and Bishop Hawkins.
Because her life was so much more than these few works can express, her sisters, Luevina and Katherine, along with the rest of her family and friends will miss her dearly.
Visitation from 9:00 a.m., with funeral following at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Temple of Deliverance COGIC, 547 Mississippi Blvd., Memphis. Burial in New Park Cemetery.
