Obituary for Mary Lynne Richmond
Mary Lynne Richmond, 72, died January 1, 2016 She was a blessing to Dan Edward and Annie Belle Smith on July 17, 1943. Five months after her birth, Mary’s family relocated from Little Rock to Memphis, where she made her home until her transition to Glory.

Mary accepted Christ at an early age, and spent most of her days singing praises unto His name. Mary was a fixture in the Memphis Gospel arena, singing with the Redeeming Harmonettes and the Calvin Delights. In 1959, Mary married James E. Richmond, and to their 10 year union, 3 children were born. Mary raised her children in True Light Baptist Church, and finished her service at Riverview COGIC.

Educated in Memphis City Schools, Mary earned her way up from cleaning houses and waitressing on Beale Street, to being the Food Service Manager of Childcare Facilities for Memphis Housing Authority. Mary retired after 15 years of dedicated service. Even in retirement, Mary continued to serve others by working for the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA) until she began to take her rest.

Mary’s proudest accomplishment was her family, and the example she set of what hard work and faith in God can do. Even now, her voice can still be heard in the hearts of many: ‘Be not dismayed, whatever betide. God will take care of you!”.

Awaiting Mary on the other side are her parents, her brothers Darnell Smith, Oscar Smith and Arthur Smith, and sister Willie Mae Smith. Keeping Mary’s memory alive are her twin sister Carolyn Smith Covington (Lonnie, d.), and brother Adell E. Smith (Bertha, d.), children Marilyn D. Richmond, Jacquelyn A. Richmond, and LéAndre Richmond , grandchildren, LéYonn Bibb (Ronald), Tramaine Brooks, DéBrionn Wright, Ashley Murray, Christopher Richmond, Derrick Richmond, Jaevon Richmond, LaKeisha Richmond, Artricia Rice, Jakobi Richmond, and LeAndre James Richmond, great-grandchildren Laronica Westmoreland, Daelon Zaun Vasquez, Gabriella Denise Rice, Leyla Simone Bibb, Sylvester Connors III, and Ashton Connors, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
