Melvin Lewis Thompson, Jr. was born in Memphis, Tennessee on October 25, 1969. He was the son of Gloria and Melvin L. Thompson, Sr.

He graduated from Westwood High School in 1987 and received an Associates in Information Technology from Southwest Tennessee Community College. He served in the United States Air Force from 1987-1991. He worked as a Business Support Analyst for ECS Federal LLC as a United States Postal Service contractor for over 20 years.

Melvin was a devoted husband, son, father, uncle, nephew, and grandfather. He was affectionately known by his children by blood and by love as Dad, “PopPop” or just Uncle Mel. To list the names of the lives he has touched would be endless. He served as a mentor, coach, surrogate dad, Mason (Benjamin L. Hooks Memorial Lodge 229), Shriner (Fatima Temple 101), Cub Scout Leader (Pack 248), basketball coach, and was an inspiration to so many. He was devoted to his family and loved spending time with his wife, nieces, nephews, children, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his parents, wife and best friend of 23 years, Andrea; his sister, Rhonda Bennett (David) and their son, Nicholas; his daughter, Kandice Lanae Thompson and her daughter, Nia (from his previous marriage to Carol Webb); and his youngest son, Andrew Joseph (Drew) Thompson (son of Andrea Thompson) who were his biological children. However, he claimed and loved so many as his own. He would never deny any of the children. This was his oldest son, Anthony Jerome (A.J) Merkerson, II and his daughters, Amara and Ava. His daughter, Jasmine Webb and her sons, Dylan and Ryan. He has many nieces and nephews but raised two very special nieces, Ashley Graham, Arin Plummer as his own, and their brother, Xavier Overton (biological children of his sister-in-law, April Graham). He had a special god daughter, Camille Johnson Bradley, and her two sons, Montreal Jr. and Ace. He was devoted to his sisters and brothers-in-law, Felicia Forrest (Edward) and their children Whitney, and Edward Jr.; Crystal Williams (Christopher) and their daughter Lauren; Clinton Graham, Jr. and his daughter, Acacia; Aisha Graham and her sons, Alex and Alan. He loved his mother-in-law, Bernice Lewis and his father-in- law, Clinton Graham, Sr.

He loved his aunts and uncles, including his special aunt and uncle, Carol and Isaac Northern, Jr. In addition to his cousins, great nieces and nephews; he had a host of additional “adopted” children and grandchildren (who he loved dearly and are too many to list). He was a friend to everyone. He was very close to his friends and co-workers who uplifted him and joked with him every day. Everyone loved him and had a funny story to tell about him. Melvin’s life impacted the lives of so many. He was all about family and will never be forgotten. We love you “Uncle Mel”.
