Michael Kent Brooks was born on August 16, 1955, to the late Mrs. Mary Jo and Albert Brooks, Jr. in Chicago, Il. Michael was born as the older identical twin to Maurice K. Brooks and younger brother to Kevin Brooks. Due to Albert Brooks serving in the Marine Corp for over 25 years, the family spent time in various locations while growing up including North Carolina.
During the summer, Michael and the boys traveled to Alabama to spend time with their maternal grandparents, the late Mrs. Dezzie and Lorenzo Davis, and their cousins. While there, they swam and fished, had fun, and created lifelong friendships. While growing up in Chicago, the boys paternal grandparents, the late Mrs. Myrtle and Albert Brooks, Sr., played a major role in their upbringing. Additionally, their great aunt, Ola Hunter, helped to raise them, introduced them to The Chicago Cubs, and was responsible for them learning to bowl.
After graduating high school, Michael moved to Memphis to attend LeMoyne-Owen College. It was here where he began a new chapter of friendship and life. He worked for First Tennessee Bank as a Computer Tape Technician. In June of 1981, Michael began working for Federal Express. In the 1980s, Michael joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. James K. Pickens. He professed his faith and was baptized. Also during the 1980s, Michael became a Boy Scout Leader with Troop 528. Due to his diligence and love for PRMBC, Rev. Pickens installed Michael as a Deacon, and he eventually became Head Deacon. Also, because of his sincere love of children, Michael became a Cub Scout Leader of Troop 528. During his life, he was fortunate to play a significant role in many of his Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts lives, especially those that became Eagle Scouts. He always enjoyed a yearly trip to Kia Kima.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Melissa Brooks of Nashville, TN, older brother, Kevin Brooks of Chicago, IL, twin brother, Maurice Brooks (Neicy) of Chicago, IL ,the Harris Family, and the Brooks Family. He leaves behind a number of friends from his FedEx family, our Pilgrim Rest MBC family, The Cowans, The Stewards, and many more that loved him.
For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
