In Loving Memory of Nikita Laverne Jones
Nikita Laverne Jones, known affectionately as Nikki to her close family and friends, transitioned from this life on December 11, 2024, at the age of 63. She was born on September 5, 1961, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Annie Ruth Saulsberry and Nathaniel Jones Jr. Nikita was a beloved member of her family, a cherished friend, and a devoted member of her community.
Nikita’s early education was in Memphis, where she attended La Rose Elementary School, Porter Junior High, and Booker T. Washington High School. She went on to pursue higher education at Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis) and Shelby State Community College. Nikita’s professional life included work as a customer service representative and as a tax preparation specialist, where her dedication and warmth left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working with her.
Nikita confessed her life to Christ at an early age, and her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was known for her boundless kindness, radiant smile, and her unwavering commitment to lifting others up. Nikita’s love for her family was immense; she was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and niece. She is survived by her children: Bishop, Brittany, Rhien, Tristan, and Mario; her father, Nathaniel Jones; her sister, Toni McBride; her brother, Pernell D. Saulsberry Sr.; and a host of cousins, aunts, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Nikita found great joy in reading, writing, and engaging with others through groups on Facebook. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, Trinity, Alexandria, Destiny, and Christopher, who brought her immense happiness. Her legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and a deep love for those around her.
A celebration of Nikita’s life will be held at Serenity Funeral Home, 1638 Sycamore View Road, Memphis, TN 38134. Memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
Nikita’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. As she journeys to her eternal home, her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us all. The words of the 23rd Psalm offer comfort:
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
May Nikita Laverne Jones rest in peace and live on in our hearts forever.
