Obituary for Odessa Mull-Finklea

Odessa Mull- Finklea (61), born June 19th was released from this earth January 9th, 2026 at Home in her sleep. Her last days being spent with her family for the holidays. She leaves behind daughters JaQueta D Brooks -Greene, Tenesha Moy and Son Timothy Finklea Jr, along with 9 grandchildren and bring into widowhood husband Timothy Finklea Sr, together for 40 years. Born in Memphis Tennessee, Odessa was the daughter of Mary Aldridge Echols and Willie Frank Gilliland along side surviving siblings Arlene Mull, Willie Frank Gilliland Jr, Gloria Gilliland, and Jacqueline Rogers of Memphis, Tennessee. She joins siblings Sandra Mimes, Lola Pain, George Allen Mull and Gregory Gilliland up a yonder. Attending Criagmount high school and growing up in the Douglass community Odessa brought care into this world by way of working for disabled children in Cordova school. She then worked as a caregiver for Visiting Angels for years and before her passing did her share of giving back to her community through volunteer work. She was a music lover, that spoke her mind and loved to play Rumi, Domino’s, Mancala and loved her ganja (ask your mother) all in what we’ll call the boom boom room. Then there was the boom boom room, where we all shared laughs, talked our trash, watched wrestling, crime shows, listened to music and had a great time. In the words of one of her god daughters (Monica), “you don't know mama if you didn't know about the boom boom room”. She loved time with her family and husband, taking time to travel in her final years. She was known for cooking for her family, including dressing and stuffing that no one has been able to touch to this day. Odessa was and will always be the fun cousin and auntie to the world and thankfully we were able to know her as the fun mom. Filling our memories with life lessons, laughs and always a good times my mother's presence it's a presence that can't be replaced and will definitely be missed but in her words, "don't cry, just light one and remember the good times" , in loving memory of the G.O.A.T. of mothers, Odessa Mull-Finklea, you may now rest in peace.
