Ponciana “Ciana” Palamos Carel age 73 of Memphis, Tennessee born and raised in Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte Philippines, has passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026.
She leaves behind a family who will cherish her memory: her husband of 51 years David Joseph Carel, one daughter Shanna Rose Carel Bowers, her son-in-law Timothy Jason Bowers and her two grandchildren Bryn Carel Bowers and Brady Robert Bowers. Along with a multitude of extended family and friends.
Ciana loved her Filipino heritage and scattered those traditions into her life. Throughout her life, she was everyone’s favorite extrovert and loved to host parties. She was always the best hostess and made sure everyone was well taken care of. Ciana took advantage of every holiday and special occasion to make a buffet of Filipino cuisine. She loved to cook and was at home in the kitchen. She made grand feasts with her pristine presentations. That spunky little Filipina lady never allowed anyone to leave hungry.
Ciana’s legacy will be how special she made people feel. Although she had many friends, she made sure each and every one of them knew how important they were to her. She was so giving and thoughtful. Her smile and laughter were contagious. She was well loved by many for her free spirit and overwhelming kindness. As a mother, Ciana worked hard to make sure her daughter, Shanna Rose, felt her love. She was her biggest cheerleader all throughout high school and college dance supporting from the sidelines at every game and competition.
Even the “Long Goodbye” of Dementia could not steal Ciana’s beautiful personality. Even though she was unable to communicate with us for many years she would give us a smile or giggle to brighten our day. She sang and danced until her last moments. Her devoted husband David remained by her side caring for her throughout her disease. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her and loved her.
Family and friends will be invited to celebrate her life with visitation on Wednesday February 18th 3:00-6:00 pm at Serenity Funeral Home 1638 Sycamore View Road, Memphis, TN 38134.
This will be a come and go as you are gathering. In honoring Ciana’s spirit, please refrain from traditional funeral attire and wear something comfortable or colorful.
