After a brief illness, Richard L. Jackson passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2020. All of his life, Richard enjoyed his dogs, fishing, horse shoes, sports in general, and, of course, making everyone around him laugh.
Richard L. Jackson was born on October 17, 1953, the third of four sons, to Rosie Payne Jackson and the late Earl Jackson in West Memphis, Arkansas. The family soon moved to Memphis where Richard attended Riverview Elementary School. At an early age, Richard became a member and usher at the Oak Grove MB Church. In 1971, Richard graduated from Carver High School where he played both football and baseball.
Richard began his undergraduate studies at LeMoyne-Owen College and continued at Hunter College in NY. Richard went on to earn his BA degree in philosophy from the University of Minnesota. Richard completed his Masters degree in counseling at the University of Memphis and embarked on a career as a counselor at the Shelby County Penal Farm and later as a therapist at Lakeside Behavioral Health Systems.
To celebrate his life, Richard leaves his mother, three brothers: Lee A Jackson, Wayne Jackson and Dwight Jackson (Kim), one sister: Doll Brown (J.W.), one aunt: Juanita Tiggs, five nephews: Jerald Brown, Eric Brown, Dwight C. Jackson, Lee K. Jackson and Mark K. Jackson, one niece: Melissa Jackson and a host of other family members and friends, all of whom love and will miss him very much.
