Obituary for Rowena Booker
Rowena Booker, 83, died February 18, 2019.

Rowena Crawford Booker was born on August 11, 1935 in Shelby County, TN to the late Freddie Crawford and Beatrice Jones Crawford. She was the 4th of 7 children. Three siblings preceded her in death, Fred D. Crawford, Vertis Crawford and William I. Crawford.

She accepted Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church Eads in Eads, TN. She continued her Christian education as a member of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles, California, under the leadership of Bishop Charles E. Blake. Although she did not unite with another church after moving back to Memphis, TN, she remained very strong in her Christian faith and beliefs. Rowena visited various churches whenever transportation afforded her the opportunity.

Rowena moved to Los Angeles, California in her mid-20s and there she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the next 35+ years. While living in California, Rowena met and married Mr. Stanley Booker. This union lasted for a short period of time.

Rowena moved back to Memphis, TN in 1991 where she lived until her passing. Rowena enjoyed having fun and making jokes. The simplest things could bring a smile to her face and cause her to laugh out loud. Her philosophy was that life was too short not to enjoy it. She was described by those that really knew her, as one of the realest people you could know.

After a short illness, Rowena departed this life at Methodist Hospital North at 240 a.m on Monday, February 18, 2019.

She leaves to cherish her life one son, Joel Don Crawford of Arlington, TN; two granddaughters, Sontidra Stewart and Shuvonneco Macklin of Memphis, TN; five great-grandchildren, Antonio Stewart Jr., Brandon Stewart, Kameron Stewart, Kylan Stewart, and Christina Macklin all of Memphis, TN; one brother Kenneth Lee (Rachel) Crawford of Bartlett, TN; two sisters, Shirley C. (Ed Ruthus) McVey and Jacqueline C. Clark of Arlington, TN; on sister in law, Freddie Crawford of Arlington, TN; a special cousin that was always there to aid and support her, Faye Delores Cox of Memphis, TN, two aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends to celebrate her life.
