Roy Hester, 93, of Memphis, TN passed away peacefully on July 22, 2020.
A native of Hazelhurst, MS, Roy was born on July 2, 1927. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War which included a tour of duty in West Germany. Upon discharge from military service, Roy made his home in Memphis, TN and began his career with Lewis Supply Company. He kept his mind sharp by reading, and his latest adventure was studying how to read and write in shorthand. Roy had a great appreciation for the art of music and foreign languages. He spoke fluently German and Spanish, and could often be heard singing country ballads and hymns, as well as the music he composed and recorded. Full of life and adventure, Roy’s Harley-Davidson became his favorite and preferred mode of transportation as he traveled.
Roy leaves to cherish his memory his children Charles Smith (Natalie), Decastries Faye Applin (Leroy), Dorothy Johnson, Cheryl Henry, Norris Taylor (LaWanda); his stepchildren Willie Mae Draper (Leonard, Sr.) Vernall Smith (Connie); his siblings Jeannette Buffkins, Dorothy McCou (Billy); a loving niece, Claudine Penn and a host of relatives and friends.
