Obituary for Shirley Marie Galloway Payne
Shirley Marie Galloway -Payne, died November 17, 2016.
Shirley Marie Galloway - Payne was born on April 14th to the late Mr. Frank Galloway, Sr. and Christine Seay - Galloway. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and made it a priority to attend Sunday School. While living in Nashville, TN she attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Joseph Warren Walker III.
Shirley graduated from The University of Tennessee at Martin, where she majored in Mathematics. She had an extensive career in multi-lines of insurance and was the family “go to” when it came to anything related to insurance needs. Shirley was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. When her daughter pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and her son pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Greek Life truly became a family affair. Shirley made it known that she was a proud mother and grandmother. She never made getting a good education optional for her children, both of whom graduated from universities. She enjoyed traveling and staying abreast of all of the latest fashion trends. She demonstrated fortitude and was service oriented. She was a member of Junior League of Memphis and The Crescent Club. She was a supporter of the American Heart Association and Susan G. Komen.
Shirley leaves to cherish her two loving children, Jai (Anthony) Neely and Eric R. Payne, Jr and her grandson who she loved with all of her heart, William Burson. Five sisters, Wilma C. Ingram, Gloria Galloway-Smith, Marie A. Galloway, Sandra (Eric) Kelly-Bibbs, and Christie (Marvin) Borner, four brothers Charles (Gladys) Galloway, Frank (Victoria) Galloway, Jr., Darnell (Joyce) Galloway, and Randy (Dorlene) Galloway. She was preceded in death by her sister Angela and brother Ronnie. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, one Aunt, Deborah Seay-Butler, uncles, Sorors, church members, and friends
