Obituary for Spencer Armour
Spencer Armour, age 86, passed April 21, 2022.

Spencer Allen Armour III passed away Thursday morning at 5:30 a.m., April 21, 2022, in his home surrounded by friends.
He graduated from Central High School in Memphis and from the University of Miami’s School of Architecture. He studied in France and attended Memphis Academy of Art.
Spencer was a principal in Hill-Armour Architects. He received honors and notable mentions for his home and business designs. Designs like the Primate House at the Memphis Zoo, the Visitor’s Center at University of Memphis on Central Avenue. His designs adorned many homes, businesses and churches. His clients remained his friends.
Spencer took great pride in his work for merchants of Beale Street. He could walk from one end of Beale Street to the other and tell you the history and very interesting stories of the establishments. Establishments like Ernestine and Hazels, which started out as a pharmacy owned by Abe Plough, maker of Coppertone suntan lotion, during the 30s. It has been featured in nine movies.
Fast forward to 1992 when Bud Chittom and Delmer George bought the property and engaged Spencer to design and maintain the history and maintenance as the best “cool dive bar” representing a history of Memphis.
Spencer loved his art work from local artists such as Mary Sims and Steve Yee. Steve escaped Communist China by taking a boat from China to Hong Kong. Spencer loved traveling, entertains and being entertained. Spencer will be missed.

Serenity Funeral Home, Tel. (901) 379-0861.
