Terry Eugene Echols Sr. was born October 28, 1959, in Memphis Tennessee to the late Elijah Echols and Mary A. Echols. He was the fourth of seven children born to Elijah and Mary Echols. Terry Echols accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at First Baptist Bartlett Missionary Baptist Church under the tutelage of the late Rev. Dr. J. L. Payne of Memphis, TN.

Terry Eugene Echols Sr. was a graduate of Bartlett High School in Bartlett, Tennessee. He worked several jobs during and after high school graduation where he developed a variety of skills that would later excel him in life.

He enlisted the United States Army in June, 1980, where he served active duty in various duty stations around the world. Doing his military service career, he was able to acquire various skills that propelled him to his future job ambitions. As a result of his military service, he received several medals and awards, including The Army Service Ribbon; The Good Conduct Medal; The National Defense Service Medal; Sharp-Shooter; Rifle Support; Medical Laboratory Specialist; Fire Support Specialist; and a host of other medals and awards throughout his life of work and service. He served Iraq during Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. He served In the United States Army with Honor for over eleven years.

He was commissioned Police Officer with the City of Wichita Police Department where he served dutifully for over ten years until his illness. He received several awards and certificates of accommodations from The City of Wichita during in tenure.

Terry met and married the love of his life, Lynetta Echols in 2003. This was a love that stood the test of times. Lynetta stayed close by her husband’s side until his passing on January 6, 2021, thereby fulfilling the wedding vows that Terry and Lynetta made to one another - “Till Death Do Us Part.” This was the promise that they made to each other and they fulfilled that promise. She stayed committed to the welfare of her husband till the bitter end.
Terry was an avid fisherman, hunter, and a man of very many skills/abilities that he used throughout his life. He taught those same skills and abilities to his children whom he loved dearly. He was a very modest and humble man.

He was preceded in death by his father Elijah Echols and his daughter, Shanell Juanita Ann Echols-Murdock. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 17 years, Mrs. Lynetta Echols; sons Patrick Eugene Echols (Savannah) of Wichita, KA; Terry Eugene Echols, Jr. of Wichita, KA; Aaron McByers of Atlanta, GA; and daughter, Amanda Young of Addison, TX; siblings Michael E. Echols (Tonette) of Phoenix, AZ; Glen C. Echols of Memphis, TN; Wayne C. Echols (Sharon) of Memphis, TN; Harold K. Echols of Memphis, TN; Stanley G. Two aunts: Ruth Smith and Laura Echols of Memphis, TN; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; and friends. He was a man that loved his mother, Mary A. Echols dearly and he wasn’t afraid to let others know. When he was wrong, he quickly acknowledged the fact and made it right. It was no secret that he deeply cared about his family; friends; and co-workers.
