Obituary for Tillie Mae Alexander
Tillie Alexander, 90, died September 18, 2016.

Ms. Tillie Mae Alexander was the youngest child born to the union of Walter and Cora Wright. Her father, mother, her husband Thomas Caston, former husband John S. Alexander, all of her siblings, son Larry Von Caston and daughter Reba Ann Caston preceded her in death.

Born in Blytheville, Arkansas and moved to St. Louis, Missouri at an early age. Tillie attended Vashon High School and completed some college work at St. Louis Community College. She was very active in her community where she served on the tenant Board for Bluemeyer Housing, member of NAACP and the election commission. In addition to the public works, Tillie volunteered many years at St. Alphonsus Rock Church, assisted, mentored and gave of herself to many families in the St. Louis area.

Tillie worked for several years as a political assistant for William Clay and Jet Banks. She used her experience and knowledge of government affairs to bring public healthcare to St. Louis, Missouri. She served as a director for Yeatman Healthcare for many years before taking ill.

She suffered a cerebral aneurysm in 1978 which left her paralyzed and it also took her speech. Many people counted her out and didn’t expect her live beyond her suffering. However, God has blessed this miraculous woman to live many years beyond the human expectation. She raised her youngest children, John and Kimberly and was a driving force in raising her grandchildren.

On September 18, 2016 in Memphis, Tennessee Tillie transitioned from labor to refreshment at the age of 90. She leaves to cherish her memory: sons, Torris Caston (his wife Shannon), John S. Alexander, II and Don G. Reynolds; daughters, Kimberly A. Alexander and Diane Caston-Flemons; grandchildren, Paul, Amanda, Brandon, Jonnetta, Jared and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Rylan, Dior, Devynne, Echo Marie and Ariyah; cousin, Verneice Grace; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
