Vernon Leonard Stewart was born March 27, 1961, to Catherine Himphill and the late Mathew Lomax in Memphis, TN. He was preceded in death by father, William Himphill Sr, sister Vanessa Stewart Beckley and brother William Himphill Jr.
Vernon accepted Christ at an early age at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Lawrence Chambers.
God called Vernon home to rest on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
He was educated in Memphis City Schools and graduated from Northside High School class of 1980 where he was an outstanding basketball player for the Northside Cougars Varsity “A” Team. After Graduating he attended Shelby State Community College where he also played Basketball. He was Employed for many years at Methodist University Hospital as a Floor Tech.
He leaves to cherish his memories: His loving Mother, Catherine Himphill; his two devoted daughters, Renata Simelton of Memphis, TN and Miesha Stewart of Murfreesboro, TN, beloved brother Leslie Stewart (Nadolyn) of Memphis, TN, beloved sister Donya Himphill of Atlanta, GA; two granddaughters: Shatara Woodall of Baton Rouge, LA and Makalah Lewis of Murfreesboro, TN; two grandsons: Marvell Williams and Mason Otey of Murfreesboro, TN. Vernon also leaves a dear friend Jennie Howard with whom he shared a special relationship. He leaves behind a host of devoted aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
