Obituaries
Wanda Delores Brown, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, entered into eternal rest on August 30, 2025, at the age of 86. She was born on November 22, 1938, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Leila Mae Whatley and Thomas Dailey Sr., who both preceded her in death.
Wanda was the devoted wife of the late Harry L. Brown Sr., and together they built a strong family rooted in love, discipline, and faith. She was the proud mother of four children: Rhonda Lyles (Carl), Harry Brown Sr. (Gayle), Dewayne Brown Sr., and Tammye Kaye Duckett. As a young widow, Wanda embraced the dual role of both mother and father, raising her children with firm discipline, unwavering love, and a steadfast commitment to Christian values.
The eldest of ten siblings, Wanda carried her role as the family’s guiding light with grace. She was preceded in death by her siblings Sandra Gibson (Leon), Ernest Dailey (Anita), and LaTaryl Whatley. She leaves her brothers and sisters to cherish her memory: Mickey Dailey (Gene), Robert Dailey, Darryl Dailey, Patricia Scales (Sam), Jennifer Talley (Bobbie), and Juan Rio Whatley.
If you knew Wanda, you knew her greatest joy was found in her grandchildren, who filled her life with fulfillment and love. She leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Terrell Owens, Tiffany Owens Mitchell (Raphael), Monica Brooms (Adrian), Harry Brown Jr. (Nickey), Trinika Reeves (Derrick), and Dewayne Brown Jr. (Wanda). Shante Brown, Christian Brown (Billy).
Her legacy continues through her 12 great-grandchildren: Talia Owens, Tania Owens, Hayden Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Jadyn Marion, Alexis Morgan, Chandler Brooms, Caleb Brown, India Brown, Derrick Reeves Jr., Derrion Reeves, Carsten Thornton Jr. and Ava Brown.
She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends and former coworkers.
Wanda lived a full and accomplished life. She was a proud graduate of the class 1958 from Booker T. Washington High School. She began her career at Cummins Diesel Recon Company in Memphis, Tennessee, where she entered an apprenticeship program for welding and later advanced to a supervisory position—a testament to her hard work and determination. Outside of work, Wanda enjoyed bowling and shined as a softball pitcher in a Memphis league.
Above all, Wanda was a woman of faith. A devoted Christian, she ensured her children attended Sunday School, Church, and were baptized in Jesus’ name. She instilled values of respect, responsibility, and spiritual grounding, leaving behind a family strong in faith and character.
Wanda’s life was a story of resilience, love, and devotion. She was a real-life hero to her children and a shining example of perseverance and grace to all who knew her. Jesus has relieved her of her earthly burdens and welcomed her into His eternal care. Let us praise God for the gift of her life and the guidance she so lovingly provided.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
