Obituary for Alston Mottley
Alston Mottley, age 70, died December 3, 2020.

On God’s chosen Thursday afternoon, December 3, 2020 after a battle with heart disease, a beautiful soul was gently plucked from among us and tenderly planted in “The Almighty’s Heavenly Garden.”
Alston Mottley, Jr. was born November 4th, 1949 to the late Alston Motley, Sr. and Lizzie Mae Motley. He accepted the invitation to Christ at an early age at 1st Baptist Lauderdale Memphis, Tennessee.
Alston attended Alonzo Locke Elementary School and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1967. He attended Rust College and was an exchange student at Massachusetts Institution of Technology (MIT) in Boston where he was employed by Polaroid in the research department. After moving back to Memphis, he met and married Shari Jones and later moved to Milwaukee to help run the family business. After Shari became a flight attendant, they moved to Las Vegas, Denver, and then Colorado. Later they relocated back to Memphis and he began teaching auto body shop at Northside High School and William R. Moore. He retired from Rhodes College in 2010 after 16 years as Campus Safety Sergeant.
Alston, with his unique personality, brought light and laughter to everyone he encountered. He was fondly known as “Pops” to his sons’ friends because he always offered encouragement and advice. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Alston leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 45 years, Shari Mottley; three sons, Damon, Adam Joseph (Chrystal), and Evan Patrick (Shakera); six precious grandchildren, Kymoria, Kynnedi, Cali, Rennie, and Damon II; mother, Lizzie Mae; brother, Alfred Dyson (Debra); sister, Janet Mottley; niece, Alfton; two nephews, Dexter and Brandon; three aunts, four uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.
