“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7)
Having fought a good fight, Bessie Mae Cobb was born on March 03, 1941 in Hernando, MS to the late John Abston and Annie Mae Edwards. She spent her childhood in Hernando, Ms and was a graduate of Hernando High School. Ms. Bessie Cobb started her Christian journey at Rising Sun Baptist Church in Hernando, MS. Upon moving to Memphis, TN, she joined Greater Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
Ms. Bessie Cobb had an extensive career that included many years at Ronco Enterprises, Wang’s International and Walmart, where she remained until her death. She was a hard worker, and yet, she always found time to enjoy family. She was an amazing cook and how fortunate for us all that cooking was one of her love languages. Ms. Bessie Cobb was adventurous and embraced every opportunity to travel. During her leisure time, she could be found gardening or laughing at Tyler Perry’s work. You could not find her on the dance floor, but she was an avid blues fan. We will miss her infectious smile and joyous laugh.
Bessie Cobb’s life, legacy and memory are forever cherished by her four children: Brenda Harris, Willie Cobb, Corey Cobb and Cassandra Walker; seven grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, stepmother: Mildred Abston; 6 sisters: Minnie Harris, Linda Sullivan, Carolyn Gipson, Arterice Perry, Evon Perry and Stephanie Norvell; 2 Sisters-in-law: Olethia Abston and Elizabeth Cobb; 3 brothers: Alvin Abston, Kenneth Abston and Timothy Abston; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
