Rena M. Johnson, 59, died November 12, 2022.

Rena Mae Morton Johnson was the first born of Gennie Mae Morton and the late Charlie Lee Morton.

Rena departed this life on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Methodist University Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was 59 years old.

Rena professed a hope in Christ at an early, baptized at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor U.L. Allen. She later joined Golden Leaf Baptist Church under the Pastorship of Bishop Dandridge Wilborn and remained there about 10 years. Her final Spiritual home was Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church under the Leadership of Rev. Dr. J. Lawrence Turner. She loved the Lord and her Church, often volunteering in various ministries.

Rena was born and grew up in the Binghampton Community, Graduating with honors from Lester High School. She was also a graduate of State Technical Institute of Memphis and Bethel College.

Her first job was with Girls Inc. later moving to Comcast and then to MIFA. She was a loyal and devoted employee, always striving to do her best.

She met and married the love of her life on May 30, 1992, Cornelius Johnson. Their honeymoon was celebrated in Biloxi, MS and later, 30 years, again in Biloxi. Cornelius and Rena were a match made in heaven, each so loving, supporting to each other. Cornelius was not only her husband, but also her caretaker. He took such good care of her.

Rena was a strong presence in her family life, a supportive daughter, sister, Aunt and whatever was needed. She will surely be missed.

To this union, one son was born, Caleb Cornell Johnson, who was and still is the best gift God gave to them. She and Cornelius were very proud parents.

Rena leaves to carry on her legacy, her faithful and loving husband, Cornelius; a son, Caleb Cornell; her mother, Gennie Mae Morton; Three sisters, Jacqueline Morton, Tiffany Morton, and Shana Phillips (Anthony); two brothers, Rodney Morton, and Antonio Young; Sister-In- law, Ethel Ellis; 2 Brother-in-laws, Gregory Johnson and Jerry Johnson, A host of Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loyal friends.
